Mother son dance!

For my son's wedding, I was having difficulty picking a song, there are so many good ones. I wanted one we were both happy with. I ended up saying you chose because I was overwhelmed,  “ Whatever song you pick, I will dance with you ” I said.

One day he texts the song he picked. After listening to it, I was stuck on one lyric that I didn’t like, so before dismissing the song I asked him why he had picked it. He replied that aside from that lyric, that’s how he felt in my relationship with him “safe” and he was grateful for that.

I shared with friends about the song, I also shared about the line that I was trying to ignore. Eventually I started focusing on the meaning of the song for my son, instead of the line I didn’t like. However, I think because of saying it so many times, the moment it came up during the dance, I sang it out loud.

As my friends said, no one remembered that one line in the song, in fact my son and my friends who knew about it chuckled.

I loved dancing with my son and looking at his wife and saying: “She is amazing, she is a keeper and I love her. “

Following are the words of the song, the line I mentioned will become obvious.

Lift Me Up by Rihanna

Lift me up

Hold me down

Keep me close

Safe and sound

Burning in a hopeless dream

Hold me when you go to sleep

Keep me in the warmth of your love

When you depart, keep me safe

Safe and sound…

What we repeat is what we remember. Repeating the line of the song over and over again, was what I said at the time of dancing. It's important to recognize the negative things we say about ourselves and others over and over again. That's what we remember if we're not careful. Let's be intentional in speaking positive things, to have them filed in our mind when we need it.

This moment also reminds me of how sometimes we sin without realizing it, God is compassionate and his anger when we sin does not last forever. Please do not misunderstand my intention, I am not saying that what I did is a sin, this is simply an analogy for the point I shared.

“ He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. “ Psalm 103: 9-10

“ Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. “ Romans 10:17

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 1 Corinthians 15:33

“ My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. “ John 10:27
