What’s your objective?

I hurt my foot last year. The injury led me to going from walking 2-3 hours to less than 10 mins. It took months to fully walk 20min without an ankle brace. I still need to wear one for anything above 20 min. I was super discouraged because part of my daily routine and self-care included a daily walk/jog.

One day I decided I needed to do something physical. My daughter introduced me to a 30-minute workout video. Three times a week, I follow the video to work out. I decided to make it a goal to work on increasing the weights and see how much I can do by the end of the year. I have never enjoyed weight training, I love cardio.  I started with 5 pounds weights in February, and I could barely get through the video. As I continued my workouts, I noticed that I was not getting as out of breath as much as I used to, so I decided to increase to 10-pounds on one of the three days of my workouts. On Friday, June 4th, I was able to increase to 20-pounds on one of the days. As with every other time I increased the weights, I was out of breath at the end of the workout; however, for some reason, I felt very happy about it.  Maybe it was because I can't not wait until I can lift the 20-pounds weights all three days. Or maybe it was just the fact I have consistently kept this for four months and found a way to make something I needed into something I am beginning to enjoy.

Sometimes we have to close a chapter of life unexpectedly.  It is sad when that happens. However, you can find new goals, new visions to begin to write a new chapter and keep you motivated on your goal.

I don’t exercise to look buff (I gave that up a long time ago); I do it because doctors, health professionals, and my health-conscious friends tell me it’s good for my health. My goal is to do the best I can in taking care of my health, so it is worth it to find a way to stay committed to this goal, even if I must re-route the way to get there.

Figuring out the goal can be the hard part; however, once I do adjust the way to reach it, it will be a lot easier when one way is no longer an option.

“If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what He reveals, they are most blessed.” Proverbs 29:18 MSG

Keep the objective. Sometimes we need to re-route to the path to get there.
