Keepsake #14
I was about two years as a disciple part of the San Diego International Church of Christ. The Women’s Ministry Leader asked me to do a lesson for the women of our congregation on Eunice and Lois. I was so nervous. It was refreshing to find in my box of prayers the notes I used for that lesson. I can't believe that I am now sharing this with you 23 years later. So wild!
To God be the glory!
Eunice on Lois. Written by Olivia Hudson in San Diego, California in 1998.
“I get the privilege to speak about Eunice and Lois. When I think about Eunice and Lois what stands out to me is their example as a mother and grandmother. Let’s turn to 2 Timothy 1:5 and 3:14-15.
In these scriptures Paul highlights these women’s faith, Paul charges Timothy to not forget the things learned from them, the example that Eunice and Lois showed him from infancy.
Timothy as we know grew up to be the man of God that he was because of the example he saw in these women’s lives, their walk with God, that he wanted that for his life also.
As our women conference approaches I think of how many women will become disciples because of our example as women who put their faith and trust in God.
But before that can happen, women in the world have to see you as an example, they have to want what they see in our lives.
I challenge you sisters to take a look in a spiritual mirror and ask yourself, will I want my life, and if your answer is no, it is not too late to change, that is what is so good about God’s grace it allows us to change.
Sisters, let’s go invite women to this conference because the women that come will not only see your example but they will see the whole West Region example. They will see women whose lives have changed radically because of God.
Last year was my first women's conference. I didn’t know what to expect but I trusted my sisters when they said this will be a life-changing time for me and my friends. So going by their word, between Cory and I, we had eleven women paid and sure enough two became disciples.
I’m so excited because we got eight women paid this year and one of them called me because she wanted me to reserve her seat, she said she won’t miss it.
So let’s glorify God at this conference, and when we feel discouraged let’s remember Eunice and Lois and what Timothy became because of their example and have faith that we can meet women who will come to the conference become disciples and then go and do great things for God.”
I love that lesson. The one thing I would change is using the word “challenge”. I found that I rather be encouraged to imitate Jesus than to be challenged to so. This lesson encouraged me to look in my spiritual mirror and ask myself, will I want someone to have all my life today, almost ready to be 50 years old. Any areas of my life in which I immediately would answer no, is great to remember that it is not too late to change. God’s grace works!
“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” Acts 3:19 NIV.
