Una lesson behind a moment...
My hubby was asked to give a speech at our son's wedding. In it he said: 'As I dad I strive to teach you… but I don’t think, ‘Let me teach you to be kind, loving…’ I just try to be an example of that…” He said other things that I don't remember. One thing is this, my husband is and continues, to exemplify these qualities for me and our children. He is not perfect, he is teachable, a quality I have yet to achieve. If our son can imitate him in that way, he will be an excellent husband!
This picture attached to this blog is a product of my husband’s teachable heart and his strength to not be offended by my “nudges” as he calls it.
Raul was understandably very anxious. He was trying to remember all of the advice given by different people: Breathe, don’t lock your knees, don’t think of anyone else in the room… Observing the anxiety oozing out of our son, I gave my husband a “nudge” and said you should pull him aside and pray with him.
When I looked back and saw them praying together, I was overcome with emotions.
As I continue to learn that in marriage it’s not about whose idea it is, it is about the result that comes from humbly hearing each other. It is not always easy, as pride sometimes gets in the way. However, if most of the time you can let the pride go, overall there are beautiful results from working together!
Reflection
Sometimes we need encouragement to help us, we can’t see everything. We are not God, that’s why we need each other.
“ And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. ” Hebrews 10:24
