Thought of the day. #7

“Yes, let’s take it again” we said. My husband and I mentioned we should participate in Dynamic Marriage, course designed to enhance your marriage regardless of the stage it is in. We took it as participants in 2004, and then was certified as facilitators for the course about 10 years after that. So why are we deciding to become participants again almost two decades later? The answer is simple; it is good to be reminded of things you may have forgotten, enhance what’s going well, learn new things, make space for deeper conversation and more.

Recently I spoke to a friend and told her that after 32 years of marriage I feel like we entered a sweet spot, we really like and enjoyed each other. I am enjoying that spot but I understand that it has the potential to become complacent.

We didn’t get to a sweet spot in our marriage by coasting, it took intentional and hard work. It’s going to take the same intentional and hard work to stay in the sweet spot.

So many things in life, I realized, I can get comfortable. Reaching a place that I want and then not continuing to do the work to keep it healthy and growing. No wonder I can be blindsided when I am no longer doing well in certain areas. I had stopped giving it attention or working hard at it.

I am grateful that I am reminded to not neglect the things that are important to me so those things can continue blessing my life in ways that fill me with joy.

“Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless go hungry.” Proverbs 19: 15 NIV
