Thought of the day. #8

“We don’t have the equipment to test what else could be going on, if it gets worse, go to the emergency room, otherwise we recommend you book an appointment to see your primary doctor.” This was the answer I got one day years ago when I went to the urgent care clinic down the street from my house because I was having some pain in my chest.

The clinic I went to had only basic equipment and could not really look deeper into what was causing the pain. Their X-ray machine could not see very deep in the area I was describing. I needed to go somewhere else.

Spiritually, I can be like that. I am in pain, I try some techniques but it doesn’t work. God makes clear I need something else because what I am using is not able to provide relief or answers for the pain I feel.

I eventually got the help I needed. If I remember correctly I had bruised a muscle (it was so long ago).

Treatment is available for my hurts, I need to be open that it may not come from where I hoped it would.

“Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie---the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked…” John 5:1-9 NIV
