Keepsake #41
“I pray to remember that (one of my children) not working in that area of life does not mean (child’s name) doesn't want to do Your will. I pray to focus on how much (child’s name) really wants to do what’s right but this area is difficult for (child’s name) at this time.” Written April 12, 2019.
Being a mother of five children is an adventure. Every fiber of my body wants to pave the perfect road for my children and create a perfect world for them. I don’t want them to suffer. However, what I want is not what they need. The fact is they need to experience suffering so they can grow and appreciate when times are good.
In the excerpt, I opened this keepsake with a prayer for one of my children to see beyond their actions and look into their heart.
As my children grew older, especially in their teen years, they changed. Most parents understand what I mean when I say that. They fought for their independence. Each one fought differently, so they kept me on my toes.
All of my children (adults now) are fantastic amazing human beings. They have overcome many roadblocks and I am proud of them!
I am grateful that God has allowed me to have a relationship with each of them that is not determined by their performance, simply by focusing on the amazing creation from God that they are. Hmmm. Just realized that in keepsake #40, I shared how that is exactly what I needed to learn.
If it wasn’t for God, the difficulties we faced as they became independent would have created walls to keep us apart.
God taught me to fight for connection, not perfection with my children. Because of that my children will always be fantastic in my eyes regardless of what they do. I believe without a doubt that each of them wants to do what’s right.
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.” Hebrews 11:1
